Civil Aviation Minister Hardeep Singh Puri on Friday said that flights between India and the United Kingdom will resume partially from January 8.

"It has been decided that flights between India and UK will resume from January 8, 2021," Hardeep Singh Puri said.

Initially, till January 23, the operations will be restricted to 15 flights per week each for carriers of the two countries to and from Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru and Hyderabad only.

It means each country's carriers will get 15 flights per week, ie, Indian carriers - Air India and Vistara - will get 15 flights per week. And British carriers - British Airways and Virgin Atlantic - will get 15 flights per week.

Further details on the flight operations between two countries will be issued by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation shortly, the Union minister said.

The flights between India and the UK had been suspended on December 23 after the discovery of a new strain of Covid-19.
