In my interaction eminent thought leaders & professionals from finance & urban development sectors at the National Workshop on ‘Leveraging Private Financing for Urban Infrastructure Development’ to deliberate upon Learnings from #G20 Infrastructure Working Group, I spoke about the challenges & opportunities in achieving the goal even as India, which was once described as a ‘reluctant urbaniser,’ is in the midst of an unprecedented urbanisation drive. While only ₹1.78 lakh crores were invested in urban areas between 2004 to 2014, More than ₹18 lakh crores have been invested since 2014 in the transformation of our cities & towns under the far sighted leadership of PM Narendra Modi Ji. Private financing, which played a minor role so far, is gradually gaining prominence due to the strong underlying fundamentals of our urban sector to fund the gap that exists in urban infrastructure & services
