Madurai airport adjudged cleanest and safest airport

The Madurai airport has been adjudged the cleanest and safest airport in the country among the airports, which handled 1.5 million to 5 million passengers for the Swachhta Pakhwada Awards 2019.

Madurai airport director S Senthil Valavan received the award from Union minister of civil aviation Hardeep Singh Puri on Saturday on the sidelines of Wings India 2020, an event organized by Ministry of civil aviation, Airports Authority of India (AAI) and Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industries (FICCI) held in Hyderabad.

Valavan said that the award was the recognition for various cleanliness drives carried out by airport officials including tree plantation drives, cleaning drives, bike rally and sensitization programmes carried out both inside and outside the premises last year. The award will motivate them to strive harder in keeping the airport safe and clean, he said.

Chandigarh airport and Thiruvananthapuram airport received second and third prize respectively in this category. Under more than five million passenger category, Kolkata airport received first prize, which was followed by Chennai airport in second spot and Jaipur airport in third spot. Under private airports category, Cochin airport was adjudged as cleanest and safest airport.
